environment & sustainabilityThe green alternativeWestern Red Cedar is the ultimate green building material, providing many advantages over man-made alternatives. Our timber is harvested responsibly and sustainably from the vast publically-managed forests of British Columbia, Canada, which has stringent environmental laws governing the forestry industry. Less than 1% of British Columbia's standing timber is harvested each year, and for each tree harvested, three are planted to ensure the long-term sustainablity of this magnificent natural resource. The annual harvest is independently audited to ISO 14001 standards, certifying Western Red Cedar as a sustainable forest product. Western Red Cedar is biodegradable and requires significantly less energy to produce than made-made building materials such as steel and concrete, while having significantly better insulating properties. Trees also absorb carbon from the atmosphere and lock it up, even when the wood is harvested and used in buildings and furniture. At Natcedar we have a stong commitment to the environment. To minimise waste we manufacture a range of products including doors, table and benchtops using reclaimed timber. We also recycle our sawdust to biomass briquettes for use as a clean-burning, chemical free fuel for wood fires, stoves and barbecues.
